I've been hassling w/ this for wks, & am stumped.Every time I'm away
from the machine for long enough for it to go into Standby mode (the
monitor's already been turned off by then, also), when I wake it back
up the unit insists on displaying the dialog box informing me
(paraphrase:) 'this computer is locked and can only be opened by <user>
or an administrator'. Before you throw the usual suggestions: I've
already rt-clicked on desktop, chose Properties>Screen Saver, &
confirmed that the "On resume, password protect" box is UNCHECKED.
Also, going to Properties>Screen Saver>Power Options>Advanced, the
"Prompt for password when computer resumes frm standby" is also
UNCHECKED. And these boxes have been un-selected for wks, w/ plenty of
shutdowns, restarts, etc. along the way.
WHY in the Sam Hill is XP slapping me w/ this annoyance every time
the unit comes out of standby mode? Something in the registry? In Group
Policy?
ANYbody please help with this?
THANKS for your time & attention to detail [:-))

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type: control userpasswords2 , and then click OK.
3. In the dialog box that appears, click the Advanced tab.
4. Under "Secure logon", uncheck "Require users to press
Ctrl+Alt+Delete" and then click Apply.

Hello, Carey
Thanks for the quick reply....I followed your instructions, but when
I got to 'control userpasswords2>Advanced, in the Secure Logon field',
the box you mentioned was already unchecked....Got any other
suggestions :?)

Hello, Carey
I linked to the site at
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/264/, opened regedit, &
followed the instructions exactly....I've let the machine go into
standby 3 different times to test it---and it's STILL coming up w/ the
'computer is locked' msg box!
Thanks a lot for trying, though [:=) When I read that WinGuides
tweak, it sounded like just the thing....I'll check back on this thread
later, in case you think of anything else....
Have an excellent day.
