our network has aaround 30-40 pc's and we have a few servers, 2 dc's, a proxy
server, wsus server, exchange etc.

now can you please tell me of a way i can push out windows defender without
using GPO? is there a way to do it using WSUS? if so, how?

are there any other ways it can be done?

thanks in advance

So my first question is are you sure you want to use a consumer level product
for what sounds like a small business?

The other methods I can concieve of off the top of my head would include a
logon script or just passing out disks. But the real root is I don't think I
understand the root issue here.

What problem are you trying to solve and what are the barriers in your way?

Hello Luke,

Googling for this one is the best way to find the ªnswer

Might want to read the notes:

Description of Windows Defender definition updates

When you get some time... Look here:
How to troubleshoot Windows Update, Microsoft Update, and Windows Server
Update Services installation issues
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=906602
If your windows update is pointing to your local WSUS, then you must include
the Windows Defender in synchronization setting.
In Products selection, please include Windows Defender
In Update classifications, please include Definition Updates

How to use Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) to deploy definition
updates to computers that are running Windows Defender
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919772
You must synchronize the server and approve the definition for clients to
get the latest definition.

Your IT dept/Admin must permit and publish WDs definitions from the internal
corporate WSUS server.
So talk/mail him/them and ask for permission.

I'm sorry I don't have any better advice to offer.

Let us know maybe someone else can conjure up something else to try.
