purpose of relationships

Hi;
I entered access exam. there was a multiple chioce question that needs to be
answerd. the question is:
Which of the following best describes the purpose of relating tables in a
database?
1. to ensure taht tables of similar types have the same name.
2. to bring information from two tables tgether.
3. faster processing of data.
4. ensure that the same type of data is duplicated in multiple tables

I got confused when i read these chioces. Can anybody please tell me which
is the correct answer?

Check your F1 key:

relationship: An association established between common fields (columns)
in two tables.

Sounds like #2 to me!
