puntuation marks show in new message screen

When I start a new email message in Outlook 2003, all of the punctuation and
formatting marks are visible in the email prior to sending it. How do I
eliminate these from showing on my screen as they are very distracting!

Click the Pilchrow mark (¶) in the Standard toolbar.
