Pull Down Menus Have No Background

When I click on a pulldown on a web page, the menu comes
down but there is no background behind the text so that
text is superimposed on whatever is behind the menu on the
web page. Very difficult to read without the menu
background.

Ideas? Thanks
 
Try changing the colours:-
right click desktop/properties /apearances.
