publishing to our own server

I work for a school district. We use our own Win 2000 server to host our website. The technician has loaded extensions on the server. I am using FP 2002. Normally I just copy the files that I change into the correct folder on the server instead of clicking "publish". I tried to put a counter on my page (the one that comes with FP). It will not work. Is this because I do not actually "publish". Thanks.

Correct, you must publish to the server via http://ipaddress or http://www.domainname.edu etc.
