publish web question

How do I publish web using an ftp site? When I go to
publish web, it ask: "specify the location to publish
your web to". I take out the http:// and place
ftp://ftp.then-web-adderss and hit enter. It then tells
me the ftp://ftp.web-adderss:0 is invalid.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance. Tony Bolden

Tony,
A lot of hosts have stopped creating second tier FTP domains and
just publish to www.web-address.com instead of ftp.web-address.com. Also,
some hosts use some funky redirection that the FP FTP utility can't handle
too well. You may try using an FTP utility first, such as WS_FTP (should be
able to get an eval at tucows.com) to see if it is able to connect. If you
can't connect with a dedicated FTP utility then you'll know that the
settings or information you were given were wrong (which happens more than
it should). Then you can try publishing with FP after you get the correct
settings with an FTP utility. Sometimes though, an FTP utility just works
better than FP's FTP functionality.

Hope this helps

Don't add the second ftp, just enter
ftp://then-web-address

If you add the second ftp you're telling FrontPage
to publish to an ftp folder.
Also, if this a newly registered domain which
has been registered for less than 48 hours.
you may have to publish to an IP address
such as ftp://123.456.789.123
Your host "should" have provided this info
when you established your account.
