publish software in AD

Keane Lee

I am trying to publish a software application using Active
Directory, but the feature is grayed out. Do you know why?

When I add a new package, Active Directory gives me three
options to select from, publish, assign, and advance
publish and assign. Of course, the publish feature is
grayed out. What do I need to check for or do to enable
the publish feature? Pleas help! Thank you.

Keane-

The software package itself has to support publication. This is a setting in
the MSI which you have to configure when repackaging, if that's what you're
doing.

Keane,

In addition to what Brian stated, please remember that when using GPOs to
deploy software to computer account objects you can only assign or advance
assign but that when using GPOs to deploy software to user account objects
you can either publish or assign ( or advance assign ).

Are you trying to deploy this software to computer objects?

Also, and I am sure that you know this, but remember the pecking order when
using GPOs: local, Site, Domain, OU, sub-OU. Furthermore, you can not
deploy software / GPOs to groups. You can use security groups to filter
which user accounts / computer accounts are affected, though.

HTH,

Cary
