Public Folders: What am I doing wrong?

Hi all,

I'm not new to Outlook but I am new to Public Folders. I've had our admin
create a public folder and set me as owner.

Outlook's help clearly states "Public folders can contain any type of
Outlook folder item such as messages, appointments, contacts, tasks, journal
entries, notes, forms, files, and postings" but when I add any type of item
to a folder it just looks like a posting. The only other type of object I
seem to be able to add is a file.

I can't find anything else in Outlook's help to show how to actually add
anything to a public folder.

What am I missing/doing wrong?

You need to create public folders to hold particular kinds of items -- a tasks folder for tasks, a calendar folder for appointments, etc.

The folder your admin created is likely just a mail/post folder. If you want
a public contact folder, create a subfolder and make sure it's a contacts
folder. If you want a calendar folder, create a subfolder and....well, you
get it.

Each folder type will default to a specific form type. So a public folder
created with "Messages" in mind, the default new type is a Post item. You
can drag/drop/copy other types of items into the folder.

If you want to have a contact as the default new type, create a new public
folder under the one you have Owner rights and set the type of items it will
hold as contacts.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh <light goes on>

It's an option when you create the folder. I'd missed that.

Thanks.
