psu requirement

Hello,
I have a crossfire setup: amd 64 4000, x1900xt and x1900cf, physx card,
x-fi fatality, 2gb geil ultra, 74gb raptor, 200gb western, ocz powerstream
600w psu. it keeps crashing! no BSOD, just switches itself off. i do not
think it is a gpu problem, as i installed CCC and enabled vpu recover, but
it doesn't report any gpu problems. everything runs fine when i take out one
of the x1900s. even when gaming from a cold startup it switches itself off
eg: i played the end credits for Sin Episodes and it crashed trying to do
that. This makes me think that it is indeed the psu. I thought that 600watts
would be plenty, and would like to know what rating other people are running
with, or any advice on this odd problem.

further to the above- its cooled on air, an akasa evo33 on the cpu, and 2x
accelero arctic coolers on the x1900s'. both hdd are inside silentmaxx
enclosures in 5.25 bays, and i removed the hard drive rack from my case so
that the intake 120mm fan has unobstructed path to addin cards. case is an
akasa eclipse.

A 600W *quality* PSU would be sufficient, i.e. one from PC Power & Cooling,
Enermax or Antec.

To be sure of the theory, if you have a spare 250W+ PSU handy, an
inexpensive way to verify is to open your case and run the second X1900 off
the spare PSU. Jumper two pins on the PSU's 20-pin connector so it turns on
and off with the hard switch on the back (google for it). To operate the PC,
just switch on the spare PSU before turning on the PC.

No way of knowing if this is related to your problem, but see:

http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,1932947,00.asp

"SLI and CrossFire Push Power Supplies to the Limit"

Some PSUs supply both PCI-E graphics cards from the same 12V rail, which
becomes overloaded. A work-around is to power one of the cards using the
Molex to PCI-E adapter. (Be sure to use both Molex connectors.)

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

Thanks, I included that link in an email to ATI yesterday. I simply wanted
to know a model of PSU they would recommend, I got the standard, "check
patches and drivers", so I sent a more detailed response including the link
you have posted here. I would have thought that a better response would be
to send me a list of tested PSU's, but understand that they may need time to
try to recreate the problem I have made them aware of that I have
experienced.

Note that the Seasonic 600W is certified for X1800 CF, but not X1900 CF,
even though the power consumption is very similar. ATi probably just didn't
test Seasonic units with the X1900 cards.

Hi,

Sorry if I'm going about this in the wrong way, but I'm new to this.

I've just bought a second user MSI motherboard and installed an akasa
evo33 ak913 cooler on the CPU. Unfortunately the BIOS is in French and
on start up it comes up with a message to the effect that I have
switched off my system fan and that if I don't shut down - God help me!
From the 'English' instructions in the Akasa manual I understood that
the fan connector should be plugged in at CFAN1 on the motherboard but
now I'm beginning to wonder if it should be to SFAN1. Any ideas?

I tried to change the language in the BIOS but it wouldn't let me, just
ignored any changes I tried to make. I have re-set the jumper JCMOS1 to
no effect and I'm wondering if the only solution is to remove and
replace the battery. Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Allan

It should be plugged into the fan header closest to the cpu usually,
labelled cpufan on my board, but try it in sfan, as the cfan may be case
fan? worth a shot.

OK, but they give the impression that the two Antec PSU's are more capable
than the Seasonic S12-600 when they aren't. The S12-600 is one of the most
capable PSU's you can buy.
