pst2gb won't let me indicate how many MBs to crop

After selecting the existing .pst file (almost at 2 GB) and also "createing"
a new .pst file, when running the pst2gb program, there is a spot to enter
how many megabytes to crop. This field is not able to be altered, why!
Without indicating how much I want to crop, the tool just creates an exact
copy of the existing .pst, which is too large.

You don't say that you are having problems in Outlook. You even say
that you have not yet exceeded the 2GB (1.87GiB) boundary. So why are
you using a repair tool for a .pst file that isn't broken? If it isn't
over the boundary, why would it offer to crop the file (to make it
usable)? Sounds like the .pst file is still usable.

Can you still open Outlook and load the message store from that .pst
file? If so, just start deleting items or archiving them (which moves a
copy and then deletes). Deleting does not remove the item from the
database. Delete-marked items are simply hidden in the GUI. To
physically purge the delete-marked items from the message store, you
need to compact it. Then the .pst file will get smaller.
