Presumably by the term "mailbox settings" you mean the account details? If
so the answer is no. The pst file only holds DATA and not settings.
If you are not connecting to either Exchange or a http form of mail (such as
Hotmail) then you already have a pst file on your machine. You can then just
copy that pst file, and take it to another machine to use, if in fact that is
what you mean by "If i were to extract a whole mailbox into a .pst file in
order to create a new one"
If that is NOT what you mean then please clarify.

Hi Gordon, I meant things like personal setting, rules etc, but then if a
..pst file only holds DATA then i suppose the answer would be the same, NO.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help.

If you are using Outlook 2003, then under Start-All Programs-Microsoft
Office-Microsoft Office Tools there is a option called 2Save My Settings
Wizard" which, in conjunction with making a copy of the pst file, will
transfer all your settings, including Rules, Account details etc etc.

Hello!

you have to use Outlook EXPORT/IMPORT for transfer information from one
Outlook to another
The information you Export from m1 is complette imported to m2

If you only export the inbox, you get all info in inbox to *.pst
So, when you inport it to next Outlook you get all in if you use correct
inbort command

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Never export to or import from a PST when moving data
from one Outlook instance to another. It's not only unnecessary, but you
will lose data and may corrupt your mail profile.

You and several others on the internet have said never to use import/export
to move data from one pst to another, but that is exactly what Microsoft says
to do in the Outlook Help file ("Convert a non-Unicode data file (.pst) to a
Unicode data file (.pst)").

I am running Outlook 2002 on my old desktop computer, and just purchased a
new notebook computer running MS Vista and Office 2007 with Outlook 2007. I
want to bring over everything in my 2002 pst file, including all mail
folders, all calendar entries, and all contacts in my address book. I have
tried just copying the pst file over to a separate folder on my Vista machine
and then doing an 'Open' in Outlook 2007. It opens the old pst file and I
can see all my mail folders, but NO contacts and NO calendar.

I have considered just doing what I used to do whenever I would temporarily
use my husband's notebook computer - namely, copying my pst file to his
computer and inserting it into the appropriate Outlook folder, naming it
'outlook.pst' and letting Outlook 2003 just open it. That always seemed to
work, but even then I couldn't seem to use my address book.

If using Import on the pst file corrupts data, why does Microsoft
specifically tell you to do this to get the old pst converted? What is the
best way to accomplish what I want to do?

Appreciate any help you can provide, as I really don't want to corrupt my
data.

Thanks,
JoanB

True, but they're wrong.

Since your contacts and calednar are in exactly the same PST as all the
rest, this isn't possible unless you have more than one PST on the original
machine.

This will corrupt the mail profile.

That always seemed to work, but even then I couldn't seem

One sign of the corruption.

Here's only one of the many times I've posted instructions. Google Groups
is your friend.
