.pst error when opening Outlook

I just installed Office XP. When I try to open Outlook, I get the error
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Unable to display the selected folder or
item. The file C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst is not a personal folders file." How do I
get into Outlook?

Try deleting the Outlook.pst file if you've never used it. Then launch
Outlook.
If you've used that PST file and you brought it from elsewhere, make
absolutely sure it's not carrying the read-only attribute (right click from
Windows explorer and choose Properties).

I just experienced this issue this week. I tried the tip below, but I can't
find an Outlook.pst file. Do you have any additional suggestions?
