I want to use a PS2 mouse with a PS2/USB adapter.
I tried it and it does not work. My thoughts are,
(a)my computer needs one more driver; (b)the
adapter is defective; (c)this is not a combination
that works.

Choice (c) does not seem likely, since the package
says that it is for a mouse.

Any suggestion?

Have you installed any software (including drivers) that came with the
mouse?

A PS2 mouse must specifically be USB compatible. Just using a PS2->USB
dongle doesn't guarantee that it will work.

It works with a Belkin USB-to-PS/2 adapter for me (part F5U119vE1),
along with a Belkin PS/2 keyboard and Logitech PS/2 optical mouse, with
no added drivers, on my Dell laptop. Both when XP is booted and when Linux
is booted. I'd guess BIOS handles it.

I doubt there are any drivers involved in this. Adapters are not all
equal; yours may not work.
