PS/2 keyboard locks up XP system on user login. Can access BIOS and use
keyboard's arrow keys w/o issue. Booting into safe mode or regular XP allows
the mouse to work, but when any key is pressed on keyboard, system locks up
(key stroke is not recorded, and mouse freezes). Tried to boot using "last
known good configuration" - no go. Reseeded PS/2 connections multiple times.
Unplugged computer for an hour, replugged, same thing.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Try a different keyboard and a different mouse.

Is this an optical mouse with a USB/PS2 adapter? I have same problem with a
Labtec optical mouse which works OK in USB but not PS2. The PS2 port can't
supply enough power to drive it.

I have the same problem. Was doing a reinstall on a dell compute
yesterday. Was running New windows updates after SP2. Walked awa
from computer came back and could not get screen saver off. Reboote
and each time you try and type with the keyboard it locks up a
login. No i do not have an optical mouse attached and yes i hav
tried different keyboards and mice. Problem possibly involved Window
Update. Any ideas? Thank

Win X

I went into the Bios and disabled the serial port and it is no
working everytime i boot up. I assume it was an irq conflict whic
was resolved by making one more irq available. Worked for me anyway
Good Luck
