ps/2 devices with usb adapter?

I have Windows XP home edition installed on Compaq Presario 2100 laptop
computer.
The computer has an USB port. I have both a PS/2 Keyboard and a PS/2
optical mouse. Can either of these devices work properly on the
computer's USB port using an adapter?
