PrtSc doesn't work

When I click PrtSc, then put the cursor in Paint and press Edit|Paste nothing
happens. When I click Alt PrtSc, then put the cursor in Paint and Paste
nothing happens. I wonder why on my machine the PrtSc feature does not work.

So I pressed Start|Run and entered CMD, and pressed Enter key to get to the
Command line . I typed clipbrd.exe and pressed Enter. The Clipboard Viewer
came-up. Then immediately after performing a PrtSc I looked in the Clipboard
Viewer and nothing was in the viewer.

Can someone help me trace what is happening on my machine. It doesn't seem
to be performing normally when I execute the Print Screen command.

You can only see text in clipbrd.exe, you cannot see anything else,
including graphics.

BTW, you can open the Clipboard by typing: clipbrd into the Run box, you
do not need to open a command prompt.

It's possible that your Print Scrn key actually doesn't work or Paint is
somehow messed up.

Try pasting into WordPad.

Start | Run | Type: wordpad | Click OK |

Hit Ctrl + V to paste.

Sorry, Wes, that's not so. I just tried it here, and clipbard.exe shows the
graphics result of a prtscrn just fine.

Strange,

I pressed PrtSc; opened WordPad, and pasted the contents of the display into
WordPad. When I tried to do it a second time it did not work! There was
nothing in clipboard memory. I wonder what controls what is copied into the
cipboard?

I was able to excute clipbrd.exe from Run.

You are absolutely correct, Ken.

I just tried it myself.

I was misinformed. I will go forth and sin no more.

Until the next time. LOL

I just tried that in Wordpad and got the same results that you did.

It isn't because there is nothing in the clipboard, it's because you need a
blank spot in Wordpad to paste in.

Try this.

Open WordPad, hit Enter a couple of times, then paste your picture. Scroll
up or down to where the cursor is and paste again.

Or try this.

Open WordPad, paste your picture, hit Enter, then paste again.

Does it still not work with Paint?

There's always a next time. It will be my turn to get something wrong, and
you can correct me then. ;-)

Nope - step-by-step here is what I did:

1. Start | Run |clipbrd.exe | Enter > the clipboard was empty
2. Start |Help and Support | Search PrtSc > 8 Knowledgebase articles about
PrtSc
3. Placed cursor over window with names of KB articles and pressed Alt
PrtSc keys
4. Place curosr in WorPad, pressed Enter to move the cursor then clicked
Edit | Paste > noting copied
5. Placed cursor over window with names of KB articles and pressed Alt
PrtSc keys
6. Place curosr in Paint clicked Edit | Paste > nothing copied
7. Placed cursor over window with names of KB articles and pressed Alt
PrtSc keys
8. Place cursor in Word, clicked Edit | Paste > nothing copied

Went back to clipboard Viewer and there was nothing in clipboard memory. For
some reason when I attept to perform either PrtSc or Alt PrtSc nothing is
being copied into clipboard memory. In the past I have performed these
operations. Can someone tell me how to trace what happens when I pressed the
PrtSc key?

Try another keyboard, they're cheap enough.
