Proxy settings with GPO

Hi all
this is the situation:
We have a windows 2000-2003 AD and we are running a squid proxy server on
port 3128.
Now I would like to enforce the policy that users must use the proxy server,
but we have laptop users, that need to connect to the internet when there at
home. But when I enable the proxy server they can't surf at home because the
laptop is searching for the proxy,... is there anyway to exclude laptop
users or that the browser can use @ home no proxy or so?

I don't know Your network design and services but if DHCP is deployed I
will sugest You to use proxy configuration script and place it into the
252 option in DHCP.
users at home will get address from their own DHCP without this proxy
and it should resolve problem

Hello, there is several ways. You may need to create a OU design that allow
you to separate or override common policy settings for regular computers.

This sounds a good solution to me, but where can I find option 252 in the
DHCP?
and how must the script look like?

ok found the solution :) created a pac file on the proxy (where also a web
server is running) and point the clients to use the pac file!
Thx for helping me in the right direction! :)

But, as Chris mentioned, you can also use GPO - test both solution and
choose this which better fits to Your requirements.
