Hi,
To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what could cause this. It may be the SP2
caused IE to be deemed an essential system file, which caused the cascade of
other problems...
However, this is just a speculative guess. Like I said - I'm not exactly sure.
Regards,
Altrus
: Altrüs: I know IExplore.exe is there. This is because I could start IE
: without the short-cut in many ways:
: 1) I open the "my favorite" folder and click on the favorite link, or
: 2) I could double-click an HTML file I create, that normally fires up IE if
: it is there, or
: 3) I logon as local administrator (normally at work I log on as a domain
: user), the start function shows Internet Explorer).
:
: What had confused me that Iexplore.exe seems not there was because
: iexplore.exe is now a protected system file in my notebook. When it is a
: protected system file, normally it does not show up when I use the file find
: function. If I turn off the "hide protected system file" under tools, folder
: options, the exe did show up. So this explains why I failed finding it.
:
: But what I still couldn't understand are:
: 1) I am quite sure the IExplore icon was at the desktop before a few days
: ago. I didn't delete it. The icon suddenly disappears, why.
:
: 2) Normally iexplore.exe isn't a hidden file and make it a operating system
: file, based on my experience. Who changes the file attribute of iexplore.exe
: to hidden? I know it isn't me. I noticed unless I un-tick the "hide
: operating system files" checkbox, IExplore.exe never appears.
:
: 3) I am quite sure the IE little icon used to appear in the task bar for
: quick start (on the left hand side of the task bar and next to the Start
: button), now it is gone for unknown reasons.
:
: Who has a clue to explain the unknown. BTW, I already know how to create the
: required short-cut to IE, or how to make it appear in the start ->program
: selection, no worries.
:
: Thank for your interest to discuss.
