Has anyone ever heard of this virus. I am running winXP home and AVG 6.0
free edition. While running the a complete test, AVG came across two
instances of Proxy.5X and one of Proxy.5Y and it healed the 5Y and one of
the 5X, but it told me to move the other 5X to the virus vault because it
couldn't be healed. When I tried to move it, it said that this file couldn't
be moved. I checked the Grisoft and Symantec websites and found no viruses
with these names. I'm not sure if I should worry about this or not. Any
advice would be appreciated. TIA

Could be that they are/were spyware and not "true" viruses.

Check with AD-Aware 6.0 and Spybot: Search and Destro 1.3

Actually, I did run updated AdAware 6.0 and Spybot S&D and neither found it,
but I just ran AVG again and it removed it this time. I am not sure what
they are and I am kind of wondering if they might belong to a program on my
computer. Guess I will find out if something don't work. Thanks for the
response.

Spyware is not at all even a pretend virus. It's simply software you
mostly agree to install when you install certain, mostly free, programs.
It's usually in the EULA but most folks dont read it or ignore it and
simply click NEXT.

Some of the EULAs are quite interesting. Many of them say you "agree to"
the creater of the software to collect your credit card information and
spending habits and that you "agree to" them selling this info to
anybody they want to. Many of them also have you "agree to" them selling
your email address to anybody they want. I suppose they get your address
from voluntary registrations.
