Just looking for some info....

Is DSL better or worse than Cable high speed access. and
is there any other postings that i can read in reference
to the two differences.

I am on dial-up right now and leaning more towards DSL at
the moment

Cable is generally faster and more reliable than dsl. There are many factors
in getting a good dsl connection, one being how close you live to the
switch, but there are other factors. IMHO, cable is a better way to go if
the price isn't too crazy.

I agree with Purplehaz. I have had both installed and without a
doubt Cable is faster. With the numerous home satellite systems
available for much less than Cable TV, cable companies have lowered
prices and are offering some very good deals on a high speed Cable
connection. I live in a large metro area where competition is great
so please check your local providers for pricing and specials.

And I would say that my DSL has been more reliable than my cable. I had,
maybe, 3 service interruptions in 3 years with DSL (none lasting over a
couple of hours). I am now trying a month free of cable (still have the
DSL). In the first 3 weeks I have had 5-6 service interruptions. The very
first day the service went down in our area for about 36 hours!

My feeling is that the phone company treats all problems as "communication"
problems and fixes them fast. Cable treats problems like they are
"entertainment" problems - the customer isn't losing anything too important!

Hmmm... who is your cable provider. I have Time Warner road runner and it
has been rock solid. Longest outage was 12 hours, and in three years of
service I think I've had maybe four outages. One time a year or so ago a
line coming into my street went bad and for a week I lost sync once a day,
but a reboot of modem brought it back. They replaced the line and all was
fixed. That's about the most excitement I've had with my connection. We get
3mb down and 384 k up. I consistently get 1.5 - 2 mb down and 250-300 k up.
I'm 20 minutes outside the city so less subscribers out here, maybe that
helps. I'll be buying a new house in 6 months so I hope it stays as good
when I move.

Strange! I have Time Warner Cable also, along with Frontier DSL. I have a
couple of more day to decide if I want the extra speed, or the stability
that I have obtained from my DSL.

One more important thing. If the DSL does go down, I can use my dial-up
account (part of the DSL package) to get my e-mail, read the news groups
etc.

I think I might just be in a good area, on a less used node, cause I used to
do tech support for comcast cable internet and I heard and saw many horror
stories, so I do know how it can be. We'll see what happens when I move. The
dialup when dsl is down is a nice option.
