Provide means of autocorrecting in any context.

Autocorrect works only if the text to be replaced is preceded by a space.
There should be a way to specify replacement no matter what the context.

I want to replace the digit zero with the character Alt-216 (Capital O with
slash) as I type, in the middle or end of a number. It apparently works only
if the zero is preceded by a space.

I'd like to see a checkbox associated with each "replace text with" list
entry, to specify "replace in any context."

You can enter a space as part of the text to be replaced. "Replace" would
then search for [space] 0. Be sure to enter a space in the "with" box also.

If you always want to do this, I can suggest a better approach. First of
all, don't use glyph 00D8 (the character 216 you refer to); it is wider than
a zero and won't align properly in numeric text. Instead, create a slashed
zero using an EQ \o field (see the "Other applications" section of
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/Overbar.htm). Save the field as an
AutoText entry, and assign 0 as the shortcut key for this entry. Keep in
mind that calculations performed on numbers so typed may not be correct.
