Provide a username and password

On my network at work we have 9 machines with XP Pro installed and a server
with Windows 2000 AD.

All machines are on a Domain.

Whenever a client machine tries to access another client machine we always
get asked to provide a username and password.

We are a small business so everyone has been given administrator permissions.

Can someone tell me why a username and password is asked for every time??

It’s mainly a problem because the machine at reception has a printer and fax
connected to it, so as you can imagine it’s a bit of a pain typing in a
username and password 3-4 times a day just to print or collect a fax.

Any help would be great.

Check both the Security and Permissions tabs on the machine hosting the
shares and make sure the appropriate users have full access to the shared
resources.

So I should check the Security and Permissions settings for each folder that
is shared on each machine??

Start with just one, see if you can find any settings that could be causing
your problems; if you do then use that single "fixed" folder/printer as a
guide to fixing the rest.
