protected worksheet won't unprotect

Hello--

I have an Excel spreadsheet out on our network which is
protected; I need to make changes to it. When I go to
make a change it brings up the message "The cell or chart
you are trying to change is protected and therefore read-
only." It says to remove protection via Tools->Protection-
Unprotect Sheet command. I go to that menu, but the
Unprotect option is grayed out. Can anyone please tell me
what I'm missing or doing wrong?

Thanks!
:) LB

Yes, actually it is shared. This doesn't make much sense
to me -- if it's shared on the network so that multiple
people can work on it, but no one can make changes because
of the protection, doesn't it sort of defeat the purpose
of sharing it in the first place? I'm not sure I
understand.

Hi
shared workbooks a very restricted regading available feature. One of
the not supported feature is changing the protection status.

FWW: Excel is not really suited for a multi-user environement. in this
case it is nearly always better to switch to a different type of
application. e.g. a database
