Protect Sheet: clicking in cells removes all previous text

I protected a sheet because I have formulas on the sheet. So, I locked those
cells and left the rest of the cells unlocked. When the sheet is protected,
if I click in a cell and try to add text to the cell, it deletes all the
previous text. Is there any way to stop that from happening?

When you "click in a cell" where is the editing insertion point?

If you just select the cell and start typing, the existing text will be
overwritten

If you double-click on the cell you should go into edit mode and be able to add
to the existing text.

Alternative..........select the cell then hit F2 to edit.

When I double-click on the cell is when I have a problem. All the previous
text disappears. I have formatting cells/columns/rows allowed in the
protection, but it still gets rid of all the text. Also, if I hit F2 that
does the same thing as if I'd double-clicked in the cell - everything
disappears.
Thanks for any help!

I also have trouble doing a Find in the sheet. If I type something I know is
in the sheet, it still tells me it can't find what I'm looking for??
