protect sheet but column width changes

Gene

after protecting the worksheet (tools > protection > protect sheet) I email
the document and when opened the column widths and heights are slightly
different.

Sometimes this causes #### in the cells because of the width change rather
than the numbers (12345) that I can see on the computer that generated the
document. I verified the receiver of the document displays the same font and
font size that I originally created.

This happens when received on different computers/screens. Some are using
the same Excel 2002 SP3 but have different screens.

I use Excel 2002 SP3

How can I prevent cells from from changing size after emailing them so to
prevent #### from displaying? Again the originating computer can view all
the numbers but some others only see #### in a few cells.

As always thanks for the expert assistance!

Gene,

I've experienced similar issues.

Sometimes this may be caused by different default date formats.

My original format was mm/dd/yy but some other machines insisted on
displaying a four digit year.

Other issues stem from different displays and display drivers.

My solution was to set the width of the original document wide enough to
accommodate mm/dd/yyyy and then leave a few extra points.

Best regards.
