Protect Document Exceptions - shaded background problem

I have a situation where I have a Word Table with response areas for my users
(Word 2003 template). When I Tools/Protect Document... and set Exceptions to
be the response Cells, I get a wierd shading behind those areas. This
shading is particularly annoying to my users and I can't seem to get it to go
away.

Does anyone have a way to get rid of this shading? (By the Way - It also
seems to cause problems when I go to my printer. The sheet of paper comes
out looking shaded, too. But I can live with this for now.)

OK, I figured it out. I really wanted to use "read only" protection.

Since I was inputting information in a Userform, I was using Visual Basic.

Since I had the Code page open (Design Mode), I couldn't protect the
document.

When I turned the Code page off (exited Design Mode), I could protect the
document. When I could protect the document, I had the option of turning off
shading behind the unprotected areas. I did this and it worked fine (the
extraneous shading also disappeared from the rest of the document so I may
have a driver problem).

This information is probably elsewhere here, but getting stuck in Design
Mode IS NOT, so beware and good luck.
