Hi,

I want to protect my database such that only x,y,z have access to read,
write, delete, & make updates. But others should have access only to read.
How can I do that. I tried creating paswd..but I got this message 'you cannot
update, this database is read ony'. I remember its just the new database I
created. what steps whoudl I take to protect my database.

Your help is appreciated. Thanks in advance

hi,
you can do that with user and groups permissions.
tools>security>groups and permisions.
here you can see who can do what.
You may want to create groups first.
tools>security>user and groups accounts.
here you can set/change user passwords.

As noted there are two options in Access. Passwords work, but User
Level Access Security is much more powerful, and more difficult.

I suggest you start by reading
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];207793

Access security is a great feature, but it is, by nature a complex product
with a very steep learning curve. Properly used it offers very safe
versatile protection and control. However a simple mistake can lock
everyone including God out.

Practice on some copies to make sure you know what you are doing. Make a
copy before you work on your own database.
