I have IIS installed on my Win XP Pro machine and have a website running. I
would like to be able to administer it remotely via FTP. I installed the FTP
service, but I can't figure out how to properly configure it as to NOT allow
just anyone to login (anonymous) and to setup a username/password so I CAN
login. If I uncheck "Allow Anonymous Login" I get this warning message that
doesnt sound very good. All I want to do is password protect my FTP. What
are the steps to do this? THANKS.

You need to configure proper NTFS permission on the FTP root folder (usually
C:\inetpub\ftproot).

But how do I make it to where I can upload/download files to my website
directory. I do not want to upload files to the FTP root directory because
they wont be in my website. Do I need to make virtual directories or
something? Bottom line is that I just want to have a website that people can
browse without logging in but I want to be able to connect via FTP, log in
and upload/download files to my webroot directory.

You can either add virtual directories to the FTP root or change the
location of the FTP root.

install the easy to use WARD ftp server instead. Its very
simple interface will have you up and running in short
order. Its freeware.
