Could anyone indicate to me how I can how I can download proofing tools for Russian in word. I did ask a question regarding language requirements and settings and was told that I should download the proofing tools for the language first? I would appreciate any assistance.

richard,

microsof tells that you need to buy proofing tools (arond 60-80 dollars)
to have the grammer and spell check in work. do not worry - just ask
somebody that has an russion version of word to send you the russinal dll
files from a "proof" cataloge (it should be c:/program files/common
files/windows shared files/proof
and you will have russion for free

Suzanne,

Please don't be so sarcastic, and explain why the guy has to pay
$60-70-80... for all languages when he is looking for Russian only?

Best regards,

Igor

Although I do find that message in my Sent Items folder, I have absolutely
no memory of writing it or even thinking it (I must have been in an altered
state at the time). But I believe I have explained elsewhere why it is
necessary to market the proofing tools for all languages in a single
package. The likelihood is that if single languages were made available,
many more users (those who require multiple languages) would complain about
the resulting high price of multiple packages.

Given that someone was proposing theft, I think that sarcasm was entirely
appropriate (even if Suzanne has no memory of writing that reply).

When you choose to use software, you either accept the terms under which it
is licensed, or you go elsewhere.

Suzanne,
By the chance, are you from MS marketing department? At least for me it is
clear: the number of "polyglots" looking for ALL languages included into the
package is not significant at all, and the number of guys like
"justmailingman" is tens of thousands or higher.
It's typical MS strategy - all or nothing.

Best regards,

Igor

I would imagine that the demand for both proofing tools and multi-language
packs is from corporate users who, like Microsoft, have to provide documents
in quite a variety of languages. But you, like any other user, are quite
welcome to make suggestions to Microsoft. See

My comments regarding sarcasm was focused at first on Russia vs. China, vs...
etc., not a proposed theft, and second - on $$$ somebody has to pay for one -
two languages vs. the full set. Such a policy is the right way to support
theft. It has to be different options - corporate vs. private.

Have it your way... Microsoft is charging $79 for Russian, and is
including 40 other languages on the CD as a free bonus.
