Prompt For User Id and Password

I'm using Windows XP Professional in a peer to peer network environment.
I have turned off simple file sharing. How can I set up my machines
so the user is prompted for a User Id and password when they try to
access a file share on another machine? Or is this feature only
available when connected through a domain server? Thanks.

Turning off Simple File Sharing should do it - granted the logged on
user/password is not the exact same combination on the remote computers.
