Promise Ultra 133 TX2 with 4 drives freezes XP

I've connected four identical drives on a the Promise controller. If any
combination of the drives(connected as slave or master at primary or
secundary connection in random order) is connected, XP Home shows the
startup screen, but the green progress bar just keeps on flashing. I've
tried any thinkable combination, checked master en slave settings, tried
other harddisks, other cables, even other promise controller on other
computer with XP Pro, however, nothing works. If I disconnect 1 of the four
drives, everything is fine. Please help.

20W for spin-up, even more for CD/DVDs.

| how many watts does a modern 7200rpm ATA/SATA drive normally take?

Remember the AT PSU days where the monitors run off the computer PSU?

Sort of. There was a switched AC outlet on the power supply for the
monitor, but that was just a pass-through convenience outlet that
allowed the PC and the monitor to be turned on with a single switch.

Remember the AT PSU days where the monitors run off the computer PSU? :D

They didnt. That was just the electrical equivalent
of a double adapter on the mains line.

More importantly, early monitors would break if they were powered on in the
absense of a video signal. The single-switch design ensured that the
monitor wouldn't be turned on when the PC was off.

Complete and utter drivel.
