Progress Bar granularity

I am trying to improve the granularity of my progress bar.
At the moment all i can manage is to have it increase in blocks, whereas I
would like to see it increase in much smaller chunks, i.e. it appears as a
seamless block as it is moving along the bar, and increases smoothly.

Any suggestions?
