Please Help. When I close certain programs, they do not
completely shut down. Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word
and Quicken are the ones that I have problems with mostly.
If I close Outlook, the programs still runs in the
background. I can see it running in Task
Manager/Processes. I have Outlook set to download mail
automatically every 5 minutes. If I want to check my mail
from somewhere else with the web mail service that I have,
I have to shut down Outlook and then go into Task Manager
and End Process again. If I don't my mail will be
downloaded and I can't read it on the web.
When I close Quicken, I can't open the program again until
I go into Task Manager / Processes and End Process. Then I
can open the program again. This is very annoying. I would
appreciate someones help.

I think this has somethimg to do with your Anti-Virus software. If it is Norton or McAfee their integration with other programs could keep these applications in memory. Shut down your AV software and see if the behavior continues. Also your firewall software.
