when i exit outlook 2003 the icon stays on the system tray and i have to end
the program via the process in task manager. Is there any way for the program
to shut down correctly wihtout having to go through this method.

You have something integrated with Outlook that is not allowing you to exit
properly. The usual suspects are antivirus software (if you have it
configured to actively scan incoming/outgoing email), synch software (usually
used for a handheld), FAX software, antispam software.

I recommend starting Outlook in safe mode (Start > Run > outlook.exe /safe)
which disables any Add In integration with Outlook. If it functions
correctly, add the Add Ins back in one at a time until you find the offender.

Hi i have tried what you suggested but still got the outlook icon in the
system tray. the only way to closs the program down is by task manager and
choose outlook and end process.
