programs' strange refusal to install registry entries

All systems are go and everything's fine, apart from an odd problem when
installing programs. I run the exe file, set where I want it installing,
etc, then part way through the installation it tells me it can't install
certain registry entries and gives me the options of 'ignore', 'abort' or
'cancel'. Sometimes if I ignore, it installs fine; sometimes if I ignore the
program cannot function. I'm the only one on this pc and am logged in as
admin, it shouldn't have this problem. It's like I don't have permission to
access or change the registry and I can't figure out why. The programs
concerned are legit, free of viruses/spyware. I've checked my firewall
ZoneAlarm Pro 6 settings but it doesn't go as far as monitoring or
preventing registry changes to that extent.

You do have Administrator's privileges, right? And also there
are no security policy limitations that might be blocking any
changes to the Registry?
