Just noticed among the myriad of things running in Task Mgr at Start-Up
are Winamp (MP3 player -- file: winampa.exe), Acrobat (I think?) -->
AcroRd32.exe), Netscape (netscape.exe) and Direct CD (CD burning program
-- file: DIRECTCD.exe).  I don't see why these need to be running at
start-up since I don't often  use Acrobat (if that's what it is, in
fact), listen to music or burn CDs.

I do use Netscape all the time, but should it be running at system
start-up?  If not, how do I keep these from starting?

Thanx, Herb

about netscape, If you use quick start function, that stay in startup.
if that isn't stay in startup netscape start bit longer.
but if you feel quick launch are no necessary , you can disable in netscape's preferences.
(from netscape menu, Edit > Preferences > Advance uncheck on Quick Launch)
All other program are same reason to stay at satrt up

also you can disable with like Startup control panel
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

also you can manually launch direct cd when you need, even you disabled in startup.
(so when you need you need click program icon from Start menu)

Most of those you can r-click on the icon in the System tray and select
"Don't start up" from the menu.

Thanx for reminding me --> I downloaded MSCONFIG about a month ago; just didn't
realize this was one of its uses!!   Was able to deselect Winamp and Direct CD;
didn't see Netscape or Adobe. Oh well, 2 outta 4 ain't bad  :-)

I see REGSHAVE also checked under start tab==> what's that ? Do I need it at
start-up?

Thanx, Herb
Download, install, msconfig
http://www.perfectdrivers.com/howto/msconfig.html
Then adjust startups as required

I'm guessing it's associated with FinePix viewer, so it's safe to not be part of
start-up?

Regshave is concerned with Fugi hardware, a camera?
If you stop something starting then you get an error trying to run
something, it can allways be restarted.
