Programs loading at startup

Click 'Start" click 'Run' type in "msconfig" (quotes not included) and go to
the "Start up" tab. Uncheck the programs you do not want to automatically
run when your Windows Starts up. Hope this helps.

Whatever you do forget the 3rd party junk the other posted, you
simply dont want/need that corruption on youre OS.Msconfig works ok,
also go to run, type:services.msc In msc, double click on a service you want
to edit, then select, manual or disable start.

You can first check to see if there is an option within the program itself
to see if there is an option to disable it from starting up. If not, then
use the MSCONFIG utility from inside Windows to control what starts up or
not. General rule of thumb, if you do not know what the service or program
is, leave it alone and do some research on it before disabling it.

With great care. Stopping programmes if you do not know
what they do is a recipe for disaster. Post a list. However,
there are many more locations than msconfig will disclose.

This programme is a good source of information:

Why don't you tell us why you are interested in reducing
the number of programmes loading at startup.

How do I edit which programs load at start-up in XP?
Thanks

Here are some resources to check for what each startup program is. Then
decide if you want it.

www.google.com
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm
http://castlecops.com/StartupList.html
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php
http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm

First step should be to check in the options for the program you don't
want to start and see if there is a setting to tell it not to run at
startup. The next step is to remove any entries you don't want from the
two startup folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

For anything else uncheck their entries in the startup tab of msconfig:
Start | Run | Msconfig | Ok

Another option is to remove the reference to them from one of these keys
in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Make sure you have a backup of the registry using a program like ERUNT
before making any changes to the registry.
