Programs in the start menu

We just got a new computer that has windows xp. Our old
computer has 98. I want to be able to alter the way the
programs in the start menu display the way I did in
windows 98, but when I try I get a message saying that if
I rename, move etc. it may cause my program not to work
properly. Can I Do this? An example of what I want to
do is take all of my kids gmes and put them into several
folders on the menu. Group them into folders for
education, fun, writing and then take my office programs
and put them into a few different catagories (
publishing, finance, writing, etc). Otherwise there is a
huge list of programs that have to be scrolled through to
find what you want. Can I add new folders rename and move
programs into them without messing everything up?

I am not sure how win98 did things but I think what you
want is to right click start then click explore all users
then click whatever name you want and then click the +
beside their start menu then click the word program to
highlight it and bring up the programs in the right frame.
Now you can right click in a blank area and put your
cursor on new and then click folder and name it. Now you
can drag and drop any programs shown here or any where
else for that matter, to the new folder. I hope this is
what you are after. good luck.

That Works, but I still get the message that it may cause
my programs to not run right. Should I just ignore the
message? I am moving things, not altering them in any
way.

The programs will work fine for all users as long as all the short cuts are
in the "all users" start menu. What you have is a folder under "Documents
and Settings" for each individual user and one for All Users. What I do is
put almost all my shortcuts in the All Users menu. That warning is concerned
with a user not having a shortcut on his menu for a certain program, thats
all.DC

That answers my questions, thanks a lot
