Programs in startup folder are not launched

Programs in my Startup folder are no longer started automatically. They show
up in Autoruns (under C:\Users\Rainer\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start
Menu\Startup) but are not listed by Defender's Software Explorer. They are
also not shown on the Start Menu. It looks as if Vista has somehow
"forgotten" where my Startup folder is.

The only change I made recently to my system was to turn UAC off and back on
again. I tried to restore to the oldest available system restore point but to
no avail.

Any help would be appreciated

Mine (Vista home premium 32 bit) are located at:
C:\Users\Walraven\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\WIndows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
(note addition of 'Programs')

Michael,

While this didn't solve my problem your observation helped me realize that
clearly something was not right with my system configuration. So I decided to
reinstall Vista, and everything is back to normal. Of course I still don't
know why my system got screwed up in the first place...

I would wonder if you had run a 'startup maintenance' type program that was
not actually for Vista and it confused the locations.
