I just got a new hard drive and did a fresh install of
Windows XP on it. Everything seems to work fine, but
most of my programs won't open. Most of the Microsoft
programs work, but any other program I try to run just
flashes up a command prompt window real fast and doesn't
do anything. I have reloaded my computer like three
times in the past couple days and it's still doing the
same thing. I don't understand what the problem is.
Please help, Thanks.

If they are DOS programs then they don't run in XP. XP
does not have DOS. You can try doing some reading in the
help and support center about using "compatability mode"
and see if that helps. Keep smiling.

Your post provides ZERO information to help anybody here diagnose and
maybe fix your problem, since none of us here no what programs you are
talking about, how they run (are they older DOS based programs?), etc.

If they are popping up command line windows that are immediately
dissapearing I can't help but wonder if they are older legacy DOS
programs. If so, remember that XP is not built on top of DOS and many
old DOS programs may not work.

Although it's true that XP does not have DOS, it's completely
false that DOS programs don't run in Windows XP. In fact, many,
perhaps even most, DOS programs run just fine.

Hey,
None of the programs that I am talking about are old DOS
programs. The programs that do this are modern, just
downloaded, Windows XP version programs. It's really
weird, after a little while the icon for the program will
just turn into the blue and white window icon, the one
that means there's not a program on your computer that
you can run it with. It doesn't make any sense. Thanks
for replying and let me know if you need any more
information. Thanks a lot.
