programs access to internet

I have downloaded numerous programs like some online poker games for example
and when trying to open the program it says there is an internet connectivity
problem but anoher program I downloaded a long time ago connects to the
internet just fine, I've tried everything I can think of like turn off the
fireall but that does not work So I'm hoping somebody out there can help me,

The majority of online poker games either are spyware or install spyware on
your machine.

Do not turn your firewall off for any reason.
