Programming MS Query

Is there way to

1) pass a file name (*.dqy, *.dns) to MS Query and
2) return results to Excel programmatically (without openning MS Query from
Excel).

Many thanks for your help (if you can help).

Hi Sergei,
my first reaction is why not use ADO? My second is how can you return
results from MSQuery without opening MSQuery?

What sort of Database are you querying? What platform/version of Excel?
Do oyu have any code yet tht you can post?

OJ, hi

Sorry I did not make myself clear. I am developing application an Excel
application using VSTO 2005 & VB. NET 2005. Instead of writing a Query
builder I'd like to use MS Query calling as follows

i = Shell("MSQRY32.exe",...)

I have experimentally figured out that I could pass a file name such as
*.dqy or *.dsn, but could not find a way how to pass the results from MS
Query back to my application.

Thanks,

If you shell it you have little chance as that will create an independent
process that you cannot access.

Bob, thanks for the reply, but your answer suggest that it can be fired as an
automation server. Am I right?

Sergei.
