Program won't open

I am unable to start a program from either the desktop icon or from the
programs menu. When I click on the program, the splash screen flickers but
won't open the program either way.

A good way to get no help is to keep the name of the program secret.

Sorry, Didn't know the program name was needed.
It is Delorme Street Atlas 2005 Plus.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Have un-installed and re-installed three times the normal way and then after
reading up on the Delorme pages, un-installed and re-installed twice with a
'clean' boot.
Then I un-installed and re-installed again under normal boot.
The flash screen appears, starts loading the components and then I get the
following error screen "ERROR: Base data server not found. The component
that handles connecting to the base data types did not load. Exiting
application."

Called Delorme, late Friday and tech told me to go into the directory and
click on the Delorme .bat file. Did that - DOS screen appeared and informed
me that Delorme was registering the programs. Screen closed out
automatically and still the same results. Delorme tech said that there was
problem in the registry, and he wouldn't attempt to talk me through using
regedit

The registry is a fairly large place.

I am just fishing here, but I am curious as to what's in the Delorme .bat
file.

Locate the Delorme .bat, right click it, select Edit and copy & paste the
contents into a message and post back.

I am hoping that there might be a clue there.

Another thought. Is the program on a CD or did you download it from
Delorme?

Has this program ever worked?

The install is from the 2 cd set of the SA 2005+
The first cd is the Install CD
The second is the Program Data CD

It was working OK as late as last week.

In going over what I have done/undone in the past week or so,
I remember getting a trial version of Registry Repair 2005 from StompSoft,
after the trial period was over, I un-installed it.

During the trial period I ran it, and it found numerous 'registry errors'.
The "automatic find and repair" button was on, and it did 'repair' the
errors it found.
I didn't like the price and the way the software worked, so I chose not the
upgrade to the full version. After I un-installed it, I also deleted the
file folders I found associated with it.

Anyway, about three days later I tried using the Delorme SA2005+ and that's
when I found it wouldn't work.

Hello,

I have a long reply that I decided not to send, but I have saved it if I
need to post it. :-)

My guess is that Registry Repair 2005 caused some kind of problem. You have
already guessed that also. ;-) If you still had the program there might
have been some kind of an undo function. I never heard of that program
before, I use a different one that is also free and has a create undo file
on delete function.

Do you have a restore point from before the time that you used Registry
Repair 2005 that you could use System Restore to fix this problem? If so
try a System Restore.

This error message should've given the Delorme tech some clue(s) to what was
happening.

"ERROR: Base data server not found. The component that handles connecting to
the base data types did not load. Exiting application."

I would contact Delorme again and tell them that you need help with their
program. You did pay money for it didn't you?

If you can't get no satisfaction, there are some things that we can try.

Good luck!

Wes,
I sent Delorme a tech support email with the basic info in it.
Will have to wait til NBH Monday to see if they reply. They have a
diagnostic pgm which creates a log showing I guess what is the pertinent
info, but there was no way to attach it to their tech support page message
box. I have it saved if you want to take a look at it, I will send it to
you. BTW, can I send an attachment with NG posts?

You can post the attachment here or send to me.

Remove the 123. (e-mail address removed)

When is NBH Monday?
