Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
Version: 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4

Is there something which will save/store and launch
my favourite/oftenused URLs?

I have 600+ in my favorites folder ( IE6 ) but
frequently use about 30.
It would be nice to have easy and separate access to them.

Have a look at keynote.
URL: http://keynote.prv.pl

You can save and launch URL's from it.

Why not clear your Windows "Favorites" out completely from your system?
Then you can start over. LOL

Just put them on a free webpage at free webpage provider like
Geocities.com or Tripod.com. Then save the url, after you convert them
to webpage html format.
Presto!

There is a wonderful freeware "Favorite to HTML Converter" program out
there that will do it in a snap!

Here is the one i've used.

Fav2html

There's a newer version out too.
It's by a different author.
i have not tried but has been recommended.

I found this webpage method (creating links) to be the best way to deal
with ever-growing numbers of favorite link files.

Have a look at VisitURL, which is closer to what you want than the
other suggestions.
You can import your explorer favourites into visiturl and export them
as an html, txt, csv file, which you could edit into categories as you
wished and reimport them into visit url. A click on a visiturl button
sends your browser to the chosen URL. Lovely app.

One really good trick is to use IE itself -- you can actually put folders in
your "links" folder. (I segregate my favorite favorites into categories in
those links folders.) Then you simply set IE to display your links toolbar.
When you click on one of the links folders ("Banks, for example, or
"Research.") the favorites will actually show themselves in a temporary
pop-down.

Just one idea. Works really well.

Just use any text editor to make one (or more) .htm files. I use one for
each category. Here's a truncated copy of my Radio.htm file -- just
substitute your title and URLs:

+++

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Radio</TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY BGCOLOR="#E7FDB3" TEXT="#000000" LINK="#0000FF" VLINK="#800080"
ALINK="#FF0000">
<B>
<CENTER>
<FONT SIZE=6 COLOR=#FF0000" >Radio</FONT>
</CENTER>
===================================================================================
<LI><A HREF="http://www.2gb.com">2GB (Australia)</A> -
<LI><A HREF="http://www.3abn.org/media/index.html">3BN (Religious)</A> -
<LI><A HREF="http://www.accuradio.com/">Accu Radio</A> -
<LI><A HREF="http://www.accuclassical.com/">Accu Radio Classical</A> -
<LI><A HREF="http://www.accujazz.com/">Accu Radio Jazz</A> -
<LI><A HREF="http://www.radiotamtam.info/webcasts.htm">African Radio</A> -
</B>
</BODY>
</HTML>

<LI><A HREF="URL">Title</A> -

+++

Make some copies of the last line. Paste in the URL and title. Name
Whatever.htm and you can add URLs as you find them. Copy everything between
+++ and +++ to use the above example.

If it's just IE, check out Bookmark Wizard from Moon Software. I used to use
this when I used IE exclusively.

I have that too. I set the file to my homepage, so I can access it anytime I
want with ease. I put a picture on it too and some other stuff to make it
look like a nice web page - and a big graphic that say "My Favorites" at the
top.
