Program to overwrite deleted files

Jeff

So I used the Undelete program recomended on here and WOW It works. But now
I am wondering, do I want EVERYTHING I deleted available to anyone with that
program? If someone were to find my laptop, and couldnt access the disc
without formatting, they could still go in and retrieve all of my medical,
financial and business files not to mention all of my families personal data
files as well. So, is there a program that will overwrite the deleted parts
of a Hard Disc (or the unused sectors in general) without damaging the
usable data on the disc and make them "Un-undeletable? I know that some
professional undelete programs can go through numerous layers. I want
something that can make multiple layers un-undeletable.

Thanks
J

The BCWipe utility is a shell extender for Windows 95/98/NT, intended to
securely delete your files. It supports correspondent U.S. Department of
Defense recommendations (DoD 5200.28-STD). The BCWipe utility provides 3
ways to shred file's contents from the disk:
- Delete with wiping. Using 'Delete with wiping' command you can delete
and wipe your files and folders using pop-up context menus in Windows
Shell (Explorer program).
- Wipe free disk space. If you have previously deleted sensitive files
using a standard operating system command, you may wipe free space on
the disk where these files were stored - contents of all previously
deleted files' will be erased.
- Swap file wiping. BCWipe utility automatically wipes Windows Swap file
contents when you run 'Wipe free disk space' command.

BCWipe software is distributed as freeware for non-commercial and
non-govermental use.

DeepDelete is a file shredder designed to totally delete files on your
hard drive. It works by overwriting files many times before deleting
them, making them almost impossible to recover. DeepDelete uses a
standard of shredding that is more powerful than the official US DoD
standards.

Please note that DeepDelete is no longer in development.
