See both Startup Monitor and StartupCPL here: <http://www.mlin.net>.

See both RegistryProt and Autostart viewer here:
<http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=products>,

Try Spybot - Search & Destroy, which among other things also offers a
nice interface for config. of startup, Windows services and BHO's...:
<http://spybot.safer-networking.de/>

For other options and more info see:
<http://lists.gpick.com/pages/Startup_Tools.htm>

For info about apps that loads via startup I usually check with:
<http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm> and
<http://www.greatis.com/regrun3appdatabase.htm>

All the best,

Glad to help. Please notice:

irrelevant material." (RFC 1855, 1995:3)

I have been using both of Mike Lin's programs, Startup Monitor and
StartupCPL (http://www.mlin.net) and find them indispensable.

In addition, I use another program that complements them with more powerful
features. You owe it to yourself to check out Starter from CodeStuff (
http://members.lycos.co.uk/codestuff/news.shtml). The latest stable release
is v. 5.6.1.23. But you can get the latest beta, v. 5.6.1.38, on the
program's Yahoo forum (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/codestuff). This is a
really great program that gets better all the time.

Give it a try. Hope this helps. Good luck.

This is really a great program.
Especially the processes view.
Now I can see which program is used in which process.
Thanks mate.

Which program are you referring to as "really great," Japie? Nil mentioned
several.
Thanks,

Dugie.

What program? The crystal ball comes up blank. Want people to read
you? Quote enough so that what you add makes sense.

I agree, but in Netscape 4.79, the Japie Krekel post is indexed below
Nil's post, just as yours is, so it's obvious. One advantage to an old
browser.

I'll break that down a little:

As for "old": it would be with any of my modern news clients, as well,
if it hadn't already been "caught up"; i.e., marked read and not
displayed. By choice -- that's how I run my news clients. In short: no
advantage shown for "old".

As for "browser": I doubt that you were reading the thread with the
browser part of the NS suite. I'd guess you were using the news client
part. And news clients are many, which aren't bolted onto irrelevant
browsers. In short: no "browser" advantage, here, either.

Yes, I *can* go back upthread. No, that's not a reason to not quote at
least minimal context -- like, at least something with the *name* of
what you're talking about, especially when it's not in the Subject
header.

A nice one, since it seems to offer both monitoring and configuration
of startup apps (among other things) in one program.

Another one to look at:
"Winsonar 2003 Freeware Edition"
<http://digilander.libero.it/zancart/winsonar/index.htm>

not tried it my self (I'm already using a very good shareware program
for this, Regrun3 Gold edition from <http://www.greatis.com> ).

All the best,

I've tried StartupCPL and it's really easy to use. I'd recommend everyone
try it.

I also recommend StartupMonitor (same author): it saved me many times
from unwanted programs installed hiddenly.

Yes, of course, it was the newsreader postion of Comm 4.79.

As I said, I agreed. At times, I've saved a post from a thread only to
find later in my editing that the subject has been lost as the thread
progressed.

Dugie (and to anyone else interested) --

In case Japie Krekel does not read your post, I can tell you that he was
referring to Starter. That is the only program I mentioned that has what he
referred to as the "processes view." Both versions I mentioned have it, but
I recommend the most recent version on the Yahoo forum to anyone interested
in the program.

Hope this helps.

Mike writes some nice, small stuff, doesn't he? I can't actually
remember ever hearing any of his stuff being dissed. Certainly, other
utils in the same categories as his get recommended; but I don't believe
I've ever seen any *complaints* about his.

Well I did read his post just now and I'm sorry if I quoted wrong.
Won't happen again.

Yep that's the one...thanks again.
