Does anyonw know of a freeware program that lists all the software
program that are loaded on your computer. It would be nice if the
program could print this list or export it to a text editer. Thanks in
advance for your help.

I think BeLarc Advisor will give you what you want, and I'm betting
you'll be surprised at all the other useful information!

You may wish to try Belarc's excellent Belarc Advisor
from www.belarc.com - I'm using it since 2000 or so.

My Uninstaller will do that and it is very small, only 33KB. The
following description is from their webpage.

MyUninstaller is an alternative utility to the standard Add/Remove
applet of Windows operating system. It displays the list of all
installed applications, and allows you to uninstall an application,
delete an uninstall entry, and save the list of all installed
applications into a text file or HTML file. MyUninstaller also
provides additional information for most installed applications
that the standard Add/Remove applet doesn't display: product
name, company, version, uninstall string, installation folder and
more.

SoftCAT is a database program designed to help you organize your
software. Not only will SoftCAT help you know what you have and where it
is, but it will also help you keep track of important information like
serial number, registration name, and other registration information.
You never know when you NEED this information!

More than 30 data fields will help you track information like program
title, version, publisher, platform, type (commercial, freeware,
shareware, etc.), category (Desktop Enhancements, Games, Utilities,
etc.), price, installation date, installation folder, product homepage,
serial number, and registration name.

You can password protect your database to prevent unwanted users from
opening your database. Use the backup function to make backup copies of
your valuable data. SoftCAT uses pop-up menus for quick access and
navigation. SoftCAT comes with a sample database to get you started and
a comprehensive context-sensitive on-line help system.

SoftCAT is intuitive and easy-to-use, and you will soon find that
SoftCAT is all you ever need to keep track of your software.

I used to go to son of spyware for all my hard to find software but I
guess he's not keeping the links up.
This is a link to enditall-http://www.compu-docs.com/links.htm

Son of spyware had enditall2 with a dead link. It's much harder to find
a link for that unless you subscibe to pcmag. This is the one place
I've found that has it available:

www.belarc.com

Belarc Advisor produce a html output file in the program directory,
like for example

<../programs/Belarc/Advisor/System/tmp/(computername).html> )

and does not delte it when done... you must delte it your self.
Something to keep in mind.

I prefer Win Audit, which prompts you to save/not save the report when
done. <http://www.pxserver.com/WinAudit.htm>. Also, a plus for some,
WinAudi does not require installation (Belarc Advisor does).

All the best,

I think that SOS is in the process of moving files to a new host. The
html has to be updated to the new host as well and there are a bunch
of files and plenty of room for error...

Then again, he might not be aware of the dead link. Did you try
reporting it to him?

Several posters in this thread have recommended Belarc, which I agree is an
excellent program. However, I consider the best program for extracting
system information is SIW (System Information for Windows), which can
provide a list of installed software, but also does lots more.

<quote> System Information for Windows by Gabriel Topala. The Freeware SIW
is a Read-Only / Display-Only System Information tool that gathers detailed
information about your system properties and settings. SIW is a utility that
displays detailed specs for motherboard, BIOS, CPU, devices, memory, video,
disk drivers, ports, printers, operating system, installed programs,
processes, services, serial numbers (CD keys), users, open files, system
uptime, network, network shares, as well as real-time monitors for CPU,
memory, page file usage and network traffic. It displays currently active
network connections, passwords hidden behind asterisks, installed codecs,
and more. A standalone tool that does not require installation. </quote>

http://www3.sympatico.ca/gtopala/about_siw_pc.html

Incidentally, neither Belarc nor SIW include programs which have not been
installed, i.e. are not in the registry. To include these in a list the
easiest way to simply to produce a listing of the programs folder and/or exe
files.

Exactly. Making them pretty well useless for what the OP wanted.

That wouldn't work either. Many uninstalled files are .exe files.

John: I did say "programs folder and/or exe files". Non-installed programs
would have sub-folders in the programs folder. A listing of all exe files on
the computer would include the non-installed programs (but not the
uninstalled programs!!!). I suppose you should also include also other
executable files such as .com and .bas to be certain all programs are
included. I keep a text file of all programs with the address of the home
page where known. Regards,

Non installed files can be anywhere. Not only in the programs folder.

Exactly. I have more uninstalled .exe files than installed .exe files.

< snip >

So the answer to the original query is that there isn't a freeware
program to list all installed software.

Unless one creates one, item by item. :-)
