Program installation problems

I am trying to install a couple of Broderbund programs but
every time I get this error and can't continue:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not
suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows
applications.
