Does anyone know what the program "sample" is? I have no
idea and neither do the folks at dell tech support.
Whenever i go to shutdown or restart my laptop i get an
error message that says ENDING PROGRAM - Sample
It says please wait while it fills up that familiar blue
bar. It also says i can just click END NOW though i might
lose any unsaved data...yada yada... Whether or not i
click and now or just let it close "sample" the computer
just hangs and i have to go back and select shut down or
restart AGAIN for it to actually do so. I have run
programs like adaware to ckeck for spyware etc. Does
anyone know what this program is?????

ok. i went to the site, however, i have absolutely NO
clue what those people are talking about. I did manage to
glean that whatever they have is only avaiable to people
on the university of virginia's network. does anybody
know how to get rid of this, whatever it is????

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show?

it comes out completely clean. and i have live update too.
If you've scanned for viruses and the computer is clean and you've
scanned for (and removed) spyware with *updated* Spybot S&D *and*
Ad-aware and you still have this program, get rid of the program. It
seems unlikely that you could have installed a legitimate program
without knowing it, but I suppose that could happen. Make a restore
point. Look in Add/Remove Programs and/or in the program's folder (if
it has one) and uninstall it. If you can't find an uninstaller, delete
the .exe file and leave it in the Recycle Bin. If the program is
running and you can't delete it, do it in Safe Mode. See what breaks,
if anything does. Other than that, because I can't see your computer
from here, you might want to consult a local computer tech (a good one,
not someone from BestBuy or CompUSA). A hands-on look might provide a
quick and easy answer whereas it is quite difficult to do this in
Usenet postings.
